You know, I find the whole writers’ strike idea fascinating. Not the “reasons why” but the fact that it can actually make the impact that it IS making. When else in the history of the world could this decision of a bunch of people who write stories for a luxury appliance make such an impact? Are we so engrossed in losing ourselves, in escaping reality, in ignoring our families, in shirking our responsibilities, in wasting time?
Now I realize that this strike has been viewed as the “enflamed tip of a much deeper, insidious infection” (see http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steven-weber/its-not-just-the-writer_b_72376.html) but think about this. If we viewed television shows as they should be (mostly a waste of time to escape for a few minutes) then a lack of new wastes of time would mean nothing.
I guess it has really alarmed me that this has been taken as such a big deal.
